With the announcement that the solo Black Widow movie will now debut in cinemas and on Disney+ (for a premium rental fee) on July 9, 2021, I thought it would be cool to showcase some of the female Marvel Studios character costumes that I've come across on my travels to theatres, museums and conventions in recent years.

10 screen-worn masks from the movies and TV on display...
With lots of free time on my hands with no movies to watch at the cinema and not madly rushing around store to find Christmas presents this year, I've been scouring my photo archives to see what delights I could unearth from years gone by to entertain myself. With masks in the news so much in the last ten months of the pandemic, enjoy this collection of ten screen-worn masks from the big and small screen on display at cinemas, theme parks and museums in years past.

Ramonda and Nakia costumes from Black Panther on display...
Now that the world has had time to mourn the tragic loss of Chadwick Boseman from his years-long battle with colon cancer on August 28, 2020, many fans have started to speculate what the future holds next for the Black Panther and the futuristic African nation of Wakanda in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Will the role of 'King T'Challa' be re-cast, or will his sister, 'Shuri', don the mantle just like in the comic books, or could his general of the Dora Milaje, 'Okoye', wear the ceremonial panther suit or even super-spy 'Nakia'? What is clear is how much of an inspiration the actor and superhero was for a whole new generation. Only time will tell what a Black Panther sequel may hold, but in the meantime enjoy Ruth E. Carter's Oscar-winning costume designs from the first solo movie, worn by Angela Bassett as 'Queen Mother Ramonda' and Lupita Nyong'o as 'Nakia'.

Ruth Carter's Oscar-winning movie costumes from Black Panther on display...
Congratulations to Ruth E. Carter for her historic Academy Award win for Achievement in Costume Design for Marvel Studios Black Panther. This is her first win after two previous Oscar nominations for Armistad and Malcom X and she is the first African-American woman to win in this category ever.

This talented spy sports a lot of green in her looks, so be sure to check out another Nakia costume on display.
The look has a South African Zulu tribeswomen-inspired headdress and shoulder mantle based on African lace, inspired by English fashion designer Gareth Pugh and 3D printed by Julia Koerner.
Make sure you also take a look at this other regal Ramonda movie costume on display.

Letitia Wright plays T'Challa's genius younger sister 'Shuri' and wears this outfit for the Warrior Falls coronation ceremony. And if you like this look, be sure to also check out Shuri's warrior costume featuring her supercool panther gauntlets.
Overall Ryan Coogler's global box office smash won three Oscars out of seven nominations, including Best Costume Design, Best Production Design for another history-making African-American woman Hannah Beachler (along with Jay Hart) and Best Original Score for Ludwig Göransson.
