So many people contact me after visiting my blog to see if they can buy the costumes and props featured here. Sadly I have to tell them that I'm an admirer and not an owner of these fantastic creations from the big and small screen, but fortunately there are often ways you can get hold of these original movie costumes and props. On September 27, 2016 Prop Store will hold its latest Live Auction of movie and television collectibles in London, so be sure to check out their online auction catalogue to see what cinematic and televisual treasures are available for you to buy. Included this time around are over 550 lots of incredible costumes, props and production materials going under the hammer, from films like the original Star Wars trilogy, Gladiator, Les Misérables, The Dark Knight trilogy, Highlander, Indiana Jones, the Terminator movies and even iconic Ray Harryhausen concept sketches. There were so many cool items in their catalogue, but here are handful that really caught my magpie eye.
movie really grabbed my attention with its nostalgia factor. With its rocking
on the classic science fiction film and this vibrant red and gold embellished jacket is expected to sell for between £5,000-£7,000.
Next up is this awesome
Predator creature costume from 2004's
AVP: Alien vs. Predator by
Paul W.S. Anderson, which was the first movie to see the two iconic sci-fi horror franchises face off on the big screen.
The movie saw a human archeological expedition to
Antarctica become trapped in a battle between young
Predators and newly hatched
Aliens in a hidden training temple.
This hulking armoured alien creation made by
Amalgamated Dynamics Incorporated could be yours for between £40,000-£60,000.
Major Kira Nerys uniform worn by Nana Visitor
in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
And as it is the 50th anniversary of
Star Trek, I thought I'd showcase a character costume from one of my favourite TV series,
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, which ran for seven seasons from 1993 to 1999.
This red
Bajoran Militia uniform was worn by
Nana Visitor as the no-nonsense and fiery
'Major Kira Nerys' serving on the
Starfleet-managed space station
DS9 orbiting the planet of
Bajor.
Robert "Bob" Blackman was
Costume Designer on the entire run of
DS9 and I liked this sleeker one-piece version of
Kira's red command uniform, which debuted in later seasons of the show, because it wasn't as stiff and lost the shoulder-pads of her initial series costume.
This cool uniform is expected to sell for between £1,500-£2,000, which personally I feel is a bit of a steal and any
Deep Space Nine fan would love to own this costume.
Juliet's wedding dress worn by Keira Knightley in Love Actually
From outer space to romance, and one of my favourite feel-good movies of all time, 2003's
Love Actually.
This
Richard Curtis tale of intertwined relationships and storylines is a must-see every
Christmas to get me in the festive spirit, and every time I tear up at the start of the movie with
Keira Knightley's wedding to
Chiwetel Eijofor and the surprise instrument players and choir in the church.
'Juliet's' wedding dress was designed by
Joanna Johnston and is expected to sell for around £5,000-£7,000
If like me you're a fan of the romantic comedy, then be sure to also check out these other
Love Actually movie costumes on display.
Hugh Jackman's crossbow from Van Helsing
2004's
Van Helsing may not have been the start of a new monster fighting film franchise, but it was still a fun supernatural romp and this ornate crossbow used by
Hugh Jackman as the titular vampire-slaying hero is certainly a work of art.
This fully functional crossbow was made by
Applied Effects and is up for auction at £15,000-£20,000.
Rita Vrataski EXO Suit worn by Emily Blunt
in Edge of Tomorrow
Next up is a fantastic
EXO Suit costume from 2014's totally underrated science fiction action flick,
Edge of Tomorrow.
Starring alongside
Tom Cruise, Emily Blunt wore this battlesuit as
Special Forces warrior
'Rita Vrataski', the
'Angel of Verdun', who fights wave after wave of alien invaders in this groundhog day style story adapted from
Hiroshi Sakurazaka's novel
All You Need Is Kill.
Can you imagine turning up at a convention, or walking down the street at
Halloween, in this supercool costume (or just starring at it for hours in your protective display case). This futuristic
EXO Suit designed by
Pierre Bohanna could be yours for between £12,000-£15,000.
Fox Mulder and Dana Scully FBI credential props used by
David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson in The X-Files
And finally for my top picks from this year's auction are these
FBI credentials used by
'Mulder and Scully' in TV's
The X-Files.
After running for nine seasons from 1993 to 2002 investigating the paranormal and extra-terrestrial, the TV pop culture phenomenon returned for new episodes this year, so I imagine these
FBI agent props from
The X-Files original run will be snapped up like hot cakes in the auction.
The black leather wallet
FBI Photo ID and Badge is estimated to go for £3,000-£5,000, whilst the clip-on
Photo ID will sell for £2,000-£3,000 and are available for each character in both options.
As you can see from these examples there are some really cool items up for grabs this time around, so it may be time to raid your piggybank and check out
Prop Store's website for further details.
