Lupita Nyongo's costumes from Us movie on display...

In Jordan Peele's 2019 horror movie Us, we are introduced to the menace of the distorted mirror doppelgängers, the 'Tethered', red jumpsuit and glove-wearing, scissor-wielding terrors who like to hold hands and kill their other selves. Lupita Nyong'o plays 'Adelaide Wilson' whose family is stalked and attacked by 'Red' (her sinister alter) and their own soul counterparts, who want to kill them to set themselves free. Needless to say their family vacation by the lake in Santa Cruz takes a deadly turn and ends with a killer twist.

This duo of blood-stained costumes from the film were photographed on display at FIDM Museum & Galleries in Downtown L.A. on February 4, 2020 (although disappointingly using white mannequins).

Us Tethered movie costumes on display...

In writer and director Jordan Peele's 2019 horror film, Us, we're introduced to Lupita Nyong'o's 'Adelaide Wilson' and her family (played by Winston Duke, Shahadi Wright Joseph and Evan Alex) who are going on vacation to their lake house in Santa Cruz. At night a family of four doppelgängers appear in their driveway holding hands, dressed in red jumpsuits and wielding scissors, who proceed to terrorise the Wilsons and reveal that they are 'Tethered' to them, sharing a soul, so they have to kill them to set themselves free.

Screen-worn costumes from Us

Jordan Peele's horror movie may have been released earlier this year, but these Tethered movie costumes from Us are to help raise the profile of the film during awards consideration season.

Kym Barrett was Costume Designer on the film and this exhibit was photographed on display at ArcLight Hollywood cinema on December 14, 2019.

The Tethered uniform consists of a dissembled, altered and cropped cotton jumpsuit, RIT red overdye, crimson ombré dye, flame-proofing with collar closures and swing tacks. The gloves are a pumpkin-coloured leather driving glove speciality-dyed dark brown, whilst the ready-made sandals are altered by paint, distress and mineral oil.
