In the psychological horror film, Last Night in Soho, Thomasin McKenzie plays 'Eloise "Ellie" Turner, an aspiring fashion designer who loves the music and looks of the Swinging Sixties. Moving from rural Cornwall to study at the London College of Fashion, one night she has a vivid dream where she is transported to the 1960s where she sees a young blonde woman named 'Sandie' (Anya Taylor-Joy) who is auditioning to be a singer at a nightclub. As Ellie's dreams continue she discovers that Sandie's life is not as glamorous and is more menacing than it at first seemed (she's being pimped out by the club manager), revealing far darker secrets that start to torment her modern day existence.

In the 2021 Netflix film, The Harder They Fall, director Jeymes Samuel brings viewers a different perspective of the American Wild West sporting a predominantly Black principal cast. In the Western, Jonathan Majors outlaw 'Nat Love' assembles a gang, including his former lover 'Mary Fields' (Zazie Beetz), to track down an old enemy and ruthless crime boss who killed his parents, 'Rufus Buck' (Idris Elba), who has been sprung from a prison train by Regina King's 'Trudy Smith' and the rest of his cutthroat gang.

In 2021 Eddie Murphy reprised his role as African 'Prince Akeem Joffer' in the sequel to 1988's classic comedy, Comedy to America. In the film the monarch of Zamunda discovers he has a long-lost son and must return to the United States to meet his unexpected heir and forge a relationship with his son. Akeem's eldest daughter 'Meeka' (played by KiKi Layne) is not happy to learn that the nation's next ruler must be male due to centuries of tradition.
