TARS robot and space shuttle models from Interstellar on display...

In Christopher Nolan's 2014 sci-fi epic Interstellar, Matthew McConaughey ventured through time and space to save humanity on a dying Earth in the future. The crew of scientists and astronauts searching for a new world to colonise were assisted by monolith-like robots, TARS and CASE, which were actually 200 pound puppets that could be moved by actors like Bill Irwin during filming. Personally I thought they were the most original idea for a robot I'd seen in many years, in their design and how they moved (made possible also with the help of special visual effects).

Models and props from The Matrix movies on display...

Yesterday I shared with you photos of an EXO Suit from Edge of Tomorrow and today it's the turn of some cool models and props from The Matrix Trilogy, specifically 1999's genre-defining The Matrix and 2003's The Matrix Revolutions, set in a dystopian future where mankind is kept suppressed in a virtual reality world and humans are bred as batteries powering machines whilst the last remaining fragments of humanity fight for freedom.

These miniatures (APU stands for Armoured Personnel Unit, a hydraulic mechanized walker that the human survivors used to protect the last hidden human city of Zion against the squid-like Sentinel killing machines) and the Bug Extractor prop (used to extract the tracker bug in Keanu Reeves 'Neo' in the first movie) were photographed on display at Warner Bros. Studios Backlot Tour on June 9, 2016.

EXO Suit from Edge of Tomorrow on display...

In 2014's Edge of Tomorrow Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt wore EXO Suits to battle alien invaders in a war that played on a loop, as he starred as a soldier forced to repeat the day over and over, restarting every time he was killed. The sci-fi film by Doug Liman was adapted from Hiroshi Sakurazaka's 2004 novel, All You Need Is Kill.

Going through my archives I discovered these pictures of an EXO Suit worn by the soldiers on display at Warner Bros. Studios Backlot Tour on June 9, 2016.

These suits were the collaborative effort of Production Designer Oliver Scholl and Costume Designer Kate Hawley and built by modeler Pierre Bohanna.

Mars Attacks! Martian foot solider on display...

With so much grim news around the world these days, I thought today it was time for a little fun. I spied this Martian foot soldier from Tim Burton's 1996 sci-fi comedy Mars Attacks! on display on the Warner Bros. Studios Backlot Tour on June 9, 2016. I'm not sure if or how it was used in the alien invasion movie, but it's still a lot of fun to see a life-size version of the big-brained Martians.

Gravity Astronaut costumes and space capsule on display...

Alfonso Cuarón's 2013 sci-fi spectacle Gravity won seven Oscars for its tale of a medical engineer (played by Sandra Bullock) on her first shuttle mission when an accident strikes a routine spacewalk leaving her stranded in the blackness of space and fighting for her survival.

In the feature film, which earned Sandra Bullock her second Academy Award nomination, the actress plays 'Dr. Ryan Stone', an astronaut stranded in space after her NASA space shuttle is destroyed by a cloud of debris and she has to reach the International Space Station with her fellow astronaut 'Matt Kowalski' (George Clooney) for a chance to survive.

George Clooney's character is a veteran astronaut in control of this mission, his intended final journey to space, and after the accident he uses the MMU (Manned Maneuvering Unit) jetpack to get the duo to the International Space Station.

Mad Max: Fury Road won six Academy Awards earlier this year, which included Jenny Beavan taking home the Oscar for Best Costume Design for her apocalyptic future wasteland outfits.

In the fourth installment in the Mad Max film franchise, Charlize Theron's 'Imperator Furiosa' helps five wives of the tyrannical 'Immortan Joe' escape from his fortress citadel in a War Rig truck with the reluctant aid of drifter captive 'Max Rockatansky'. Searching for her old homeland, they are pursued relentlessly through the futuristic desert wasteland at high-speed by the despot and his ruthless henchmen.

In the movie, the 'Bullet Farmer' is one of Immortan Joe's allies and joins in the pursuit of the liberated women, whilst 'The Splendid Angharad' (aka 'Splendid' or 'Angharad') is the warlord's pregnant wife, one of his favourites.

You have to agree this movie has some of the most outlandish looking costumes, from 'The Organic Mechanic' to 'The People Eater' with his gas mask crotch codpiece, ornate nose chain and grotesque nipple clamps, but look at the detail that's gone into the dystopic looks.

These inventive and imaginative costume designs are certainly worthy of their Oscar win don't you think.
