In Dallas Buyers Club, Matthew McConaughey stars as the real-life Texas electrician 'Ron Woodroof', who after being diagnosed with HIV in 1986 battled with the medical establishment and pharmaceutical companies, and searched for alternative ways to help his fellow HIV-positive patients to get access to the drugs and help they needed.

When he was diagnosed with
HIV, the drug addict heterosexual cowboy and homophobe,
Ron Woodroof, was given 30 days to live. Prescribed the
FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approved
AZT, the only legal drug available at the time in the
U.S., Ron was brought to the brink of death.

To survive he smuggled anti-viral medications from all over the world unavailable in
America, and with the help of his sympathetic doctor,
'Eve Saks' (Jennifer Garner), and a fellow
AIDS patient,
'Rayon' (Jared Leto), he established the
Dallas Buyers Club, providing paying members with these alternative life-prolonging treatments.

Jennifer Garner plays a friendly Doctor who helps
Ron and these are her hospital scrubs from the movie, whilst
Jared Leto who has been receiving early
Oscar buzz along with
Matthew McConaughey, plays the transgender character
'Rayon' and wears this outfit in the 80's based film.
Both
McConaughey and
Leto lost considerable weight to convincingly portray their
HIV-positive status in the film.
