C-3PO costume from Star Wars: The Force Awakens on display...

In 2015's Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens, Anthony Daniels reprised his role as the fussy and worry-prone golden protocol droid, 'C-3PO'. The constant companion of astromech droid, 'R2-D2', 'Threepio' returned in this movie sequel set thirty years after Return of the Jedi sporting a red arm. Director J. J. Abrams apparently wanted the arm color change to hint at C-3PO's unseen history and experiences between films.

Dan Shor's Ram movie costume from Tron on display...

This week I saw the new Tron: Ares movie on the big screen and wished I could have also seen some of the new costumes and props from the movie in person. Fortunately my Tron cravings were satisfied the week before with this costume from the original 1982 Disney sci-fi film on display at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. In the film computer programmer and video game developer, 'Kevin Flynn' (played by Jeff Bridges), is abducted into the digital world of the Grid and forced to participate in gladiatorial games where his only chance of escape is a the help of a heroic security program named 'Tron' (Bruce Boxleitner). Another ally of Flynn's within the mainframe is the captured program 'Ram' played by Dan Shor.

For the now beloved cult classic, writer-director Steven Lisberger collaborated with Oscar-nominated Costume Designers Elois Jenssen and Rosanna Norton to create futuristic-looking outfits (by Eighties standards) made from simple materials to convey life inside a computer world.

Ram's white and black costume is made from hockey pads and a fabric bodysuit with gaffer tape and screen-printed electronic circuitry details. For the 1982 movie, a backlit animation process helped create the illusion of outfits with embedded high tech glowing circuitry.

This screen-used costume was photographed on display at L.A.'s Academy Museum of Motion Pictures on October 13, 2025.

Fans of Disney's science fiction film franchise can see more costumes from the 1982 Tron movie, plus Tron: Legacy film costumes on display at previous cinema exhibits and expos.

Frank movie costume from Donnie Darko on display...

With Halloween just over a week away I couldn't help but share a look at another cool costume on display at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, James Duval's 'Frank' costume from the 2001 psychological sci-fi thriller, Donnie Darko. In the film Jake Gyllenhaal plays troubled teenager 'Donnie Darko' who narrowly escapes a freak accident and starts hallucinating a menacing man in a large bunny suit named Frank, that only he can see, who encourages him to commit crimes.

This screen-used costume from writer-director Richard Kelly's movie was photographed on display at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles on October 13, 2025.

This bunny costume is made from synthetic fur, rubber and paint and the suit was fabricated by Costume Designer April Ferry and Dale R. Brady and Rob Burman were responsible for the creepy mask.

Meanwhile fans of Jake Gyllenhaal and his films may also like to check out his Prince of Persia movie costumes on display.

Being only 5'4" myself, I'm not sure I'd want to be the only person to see a guy in a giant bunny suit that follows me everywhere I go.

Halle Berry's Storm movie costume from X-Men on display...

Last Monday I finally made it to the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles and was thrilled by all the screen-used costumes, props, set pieces and more on display there. Being an avid Marvel Comics reader since the 1980s, if I had to say what my favourite discovery there was, the thing that really got my nerdy fanboy heart pounding, it would be Halle Berry's weather-controlling 'Ororo Monroe' aka 'Storm' costume from 2000's X-Men movie. The film really was the start of the modern superhero movie era and saw the telepathic 'Professor Charles Xavier' and his band of former students and super-powered teachers at the Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters take on 'Magneto', the Master of Magnetism, and his Brotherhood of Evil Mutants on the big screen for the first time.

If you get a chance, do yourself a favour and go and see Storm's costume up close and in person, it just hits differently.
