The movie Brooklyn was another endearing film that moved me to tears in 2015 and so it was a joy to see these costumes worn by its stars, Saoirse Ronan and Emory Cohen, on display at the FIDM Museum in Downtown L.A. on February 12, 2016.
Costumes worn by Saoirse Ronan as Ellis Lacey
and Emory Cohen as Tony Fiorello in Brooklyn
Brooklyn is based on the 2009 book of the same name by Irish author Colm Tóibín, and tells the tale of a young Irish woman, 'Ellis Lacey' (Saoirse Ronan), who travels to America in the early 1950s to find work and a new life of opportunities. Anyone who has moved abroad, emigrated, or left their loved ones behind will be touched by her emotional journey of starting over and making a choice between two countries.Odile Dicks-Mireaux was responsible for recreating the 1950s fashion in the film worn by Saoirse Ronand and her Italian immigrant plumber boyfriend/husband, 'Tony Fiorello' (Emory Cohen).
You can also see her film costumes designs in 1960s drama An Education, plus for more 1950s New York film fashion, be sure to also check out Sandy Powell's movie costumes from Carol.
