To celebrate Hugh Laurie's birthday we're flashing back to 2015 and the Disney sci-fi movie Tomorrowland, in which he played the villainous 'Governor Nix'. In the film Britt Robertson's tech-savvy teen 'Casey Newton' finds a lapel pin with a 'T' on it and finds herself temporarily transported to a seemingly futuristic alternate world of robots, jetpacks, sleek buildings and advanced technology. Tracking the origins of the pin she's aided by a robot girl named 'Athena' and George Clooney's reclusive inventor 'Frank Walker', as they take on Audio-Animatronic assassins in their quest to reach Tomorrowland and save our world from an apocalypse.

In the movie Hugh Laurie plays the leader of Tomorrowland, 'David Nix', who tried to recruit the world's best dreamers and thinkers, like a young Frank at the 1964 New York World's Fair, to join the visionary ranks of Tomorrowland. However this vision gets warped by the apocalyptic prophecy of a future-telling tachyon machine. These screen-worn costumes were photographed on display at Disney's D23 Expo on August 23, 2019, part of the Walt Disney Archives Heroes & Villains: The Art of the Disney Costume exhibit.

In the feature film, Raffey Camomile Cassidy plays a young Audio-Animatronic robot girl (based on a form of robotics animation created by Walt Disney Imagineering for attractions at the theme parks) that goes out into the world and recruits suitable candidates for Tomorrowland. In you look closely you'll see the print on her shiny retro blue dress from the 1964 New York World's Fair is actually a pattern of overlapping math equations, which is a pretty clever design element.
