Once Upon a Time TV props on display at Disney's D23 Expo 2013...

Everything in Hollywood is cyclical, and just as superheroes were having their moment to shine (and shine), so too were fairytale movies and TV shows making a comeback a couple of years ago. Once Upon a Time saw beloved characters from fables and folklore return to the small screen in October 2011 in a new series which saw these fairytale folk robbed of their real memories by a curse and transported to the real world to a seaside town called 'Storybrooke'.

Here are a collection of props featured in the TV Show on display at the Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives exhibit at Disney's D23 Expo at the Anaheim Convention Center on August 9, 2013.

Included in the selection of screen-used props was the storybook that played a prominent role in the series first season (used by Jared Gilmore as 'Henry'), plus the baby blanket of 'Emma Swan' (the daughter of 'Snow White' and 'Prince Charming') that she was wrapped in when her parents tried to save her from the curse by sending her to our world.

In addition there was an iconic fairytale poisoned apple used by the 'Evil Queen Regina' (Lana Parrilla), the 'bean necklace' worn by Jorge Garcia as the giant 'Anton' in the second season and probably the most impressive, 'The Dark One's' dagger which grants immense arcane power and knowledge to whoever's name is inscribed on the blade, in this case 'Rumplestiltskin' (played by Robert Carlyle).

In the meantime you may like to take a look at these Disney Dream Portraits costumes which are also inspired by fairytales.

More Mary Poppins costumes and props on display at Disney D23 Expo...

In addition to the two wonderful outfits worn by Julie Andrews as the titular nanny in Disney's 1964 big screen musical, Mary Poppins, the Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives exhibit at the D23 Expo at the Anaheim Convention Center on August 9, 2013 also had a wonderful selection of lesser seen costumes and props on display.

Mrs. Winifred Banks is a member of the British suffragette movement in 1910 and this is the costume she wears at the start of the movie, whilst her London banker husband wears this jacket relaxing at home.

In addition to the costumes, the D23 Expo exhibit also had Mary Poppins seemingly bottomless magical carpet bag on display, which was cool to see up close, like seeing a little piece of Hollywood history.

Other props included were original alphabet nursery blocks used in the movie to spell out Mary Poppins, a jack-in-the-box toy, a St. Paul's Cathedral snow globe used by Julie Andrews and even a chimney sweep brush, probably from the musical's 'Chim Chim Cher-ee' song and dance number.

Original Mary Poppins movie costumes worn by Julie Andrews on display...

As we've focused on the Oz movie costume and props in recent days, I thought it only fair to share the spotlight with some other, no less magical costumes, on display at this year's Disney D23 Expo at the Anaheim Convention Center on August 9, 2013. Enjoy these two signature looks from 1964's classic big screen musical worn by Julie Andrews as the titular magical British nanny, 'Mary Poppins'.

I've seen the knitted scarf adorned outfit on display at Disney's Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives at The Reagan Library in July 2012, but hidden away behind a reflective display case. On this occasion I was able to get a much closer look at the wonderfully iconic costume, plus more of Tony Walton's Oscar nominated costume designs, and even some original carousel horse props featured in the movie too.

In the movie set in 1910, when Mary Poppins, Dick Van Dyke's 'Bert' and The Banks children jump into a chalk-drawn picture, they emerge into a fantasy world of painted backgrounds, fairground carousels, horse-racing and dancing animated penguins, and the actress wears this pretty dress during the 'Jolly Holiday' song.

Even though the Edwardian outfit is missing her satin waist corset, it's still quite special to see the costume on display with its accompanying hat, ankle boots and parasol. It's also interesting to see that the ribbons and bow detailing on the dress are actually orange and not the pink they appear to be in the movie. Let's face it, who doesn't have fond memories of this classic film musical.

Also on display from the Disney vaults were these colourful merry-go-round horses that featured in the movie, imaginatively presented within the exhibit. I believe these are Bert's orange horse and Mary's winning lilac-coloured carousel horse from the horse-racing scene.
