Freddy Krueger costume and prop from A Nightmare on Elm Street film franchise on display...

In Writer/Director Wes Craven's 1984 supernatural horror, A Nightmare on Elm Street, a new iconic horror villain was born in the form of 'Freddy Krueger' played by Robert Englund. In the slasher film a group of Elm Street teenagers are targeted in their dreams by the undead child killer as revenge for their parents burning him alive in an act of vigilante justice. Freddy's burn-scarred face, fedora hat, striped sweater and bladed glove make him one of horror's most recognizable killers.

This screen-used costume and prop were captured on display at The Horror Show exhibition at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures on October 4, 2026.

Dana Lynn was Costume Designer on the movie, whilst Judy Graham was responsible for crafting Freddy's iconic red and green striped sweater.

Jim Doyle was the Mechanical Special Effects Designer tasked with creating Freddy Krueger's iconic and deadly knife glove.

David B. Miller was the Special Effects Makeup Artist responsible for designing Freddy's visually arresting disfigured burn-scarred look.

Meanwhile the "Welcome to Prime Time" television animatronic puppet prop designed by Anton Tremblay and made by Image Engineering is from 1987's A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors.

Infamously in the third movie in the franchise, the transformed TV set attacks and kills Penelope Sudrow's 'Jennifer Caulfield' after she falls asleep watching television.

Be sure to also check out the screen-used movie costume and props from 2010's A Nightmare on Elm Street remake in which Jackie Earle Haley took up the mantle of Freddy Krueger.

Jamie Clayton's Pinhead movie costume from 2022's Hellraiser on display...

In Director David Bruckner's 2022 supernatural horror fantasy entry in the Hellraiser film franchise, Jamie Clayton stars as the "Hell Priest" and leader of the otherworldly Cenobites, a sadomasochistic group of humanoid beings who thrive on pain being pleasure. Streamer Hulu's reboot follows a young woman struggling with addiction named 'Riley McKendry' (Odessa A'zion) who comes into possession of an ancient, shape-changing puzzle box, named the Lament Configuration, that opens a portal to another dimension and summons the Cenobites who crave blood, torture and pain. When Riley's life crosses the path of a long-missing hedonistic millionaire and art collector, her friends and family soon start becoming victims of the sadistic Cenobites.

This screen-used costume was photographed on display as part of The Horror Show exhibition currently running at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures on October 4, 2026.

Keith Thompson was Lead Concept Designer on the movie, especially on the Cenobites costumes, with Special Effects by Josh Russell and Sierra Spence for Russell FX.

The iconic Pinhead character first appears in Clive Barker's 1987 cult classic Hellraiser as a nameless Hell Priest among the Cenobites. For the original look of the extra-dimensional beings, the film's Writer/Director was influenced by the queer fetish and body modification subcultures of the era like New York City hard S&M clubs, all black leather, piercings and chains.

The 2022 reimagining of pinhead is a more fleshy look of sinew, skin and bone, with pearls added to the horror icon's signature pin-pierced scalp look.

Be sure to compare this new look to Pinhead's costume from Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth previously on display at the Planet Hollywood Cafe in Las Vegas.

Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande Wicked: For Good movie costumes on display...

Continuing with the theme of the season of the witch, yesterday I ventured to the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures to see their latest exhibition, The Horror Show, which is perfectly timed for this Halloween month and whilst I was there in another gallery room I chanced up this witchy duo of costumes from 2025's Wicked: For Good. In the continuation and culmination of director John M. Chu's blockbuster big screen adaptation of the beloved Broadway musical fantasy hit, Wicked, Cynthia Erivo's 'Elphaba' embraces her role as the green-skinned 'Wicked Witch of the West' exiled in the Ozian forest, fighting for the truth, whilst her popular friend 'Glinda' (Ariana Grande) reigns as a symbol of goodness in the Emerald City. In this spellbinding conclusion, the two magical women must reunite to change themselves and Oz for good.

Photographed at the Academy Museum on October 4, 20226, this duo of screen-worn costumes clearly embody the opposing ideas of darkness and light, with propaganda demonizing Elphaba as a symbol of wickedness and Glinda as the representation of good.

Paul Tazewell was again the Costume Designer on this movie sequel, having won the Oscar for Costume Design for 2024's Wicked.

Elphaba's dark look, which the designer describes as her "power look" evokes tree bark and twisting vines, reinforcing her connection with nature, constructed with silk velvet, pleated linen, pleated lace and chiffon, stretch nylon and leather, presented here with her screen-used broom prop.

Meanwhile Glinda's storybook silhouette pays homage to the iconic gown worn by actress Billy Burke as the original 'Good Witch of the North' in 1939's classic musical film, The Wizard of Oz. Ariana Grande's gown is made from synthetic satin and tulle, and layered organza embroidered with beads and sequins.

You can see more of his work with these Oscar-nominated West Side Story movie costumes from the 2021 remake, these Harriet movie costumes and these Emmy-nominated costumes from Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert on display.

For more witchy goings on, be sure to check out this veritable coven of screen-worn witch costumes from the big and small screen I've encountered on my travels in the past.
