This year Netflix's television adaptation of Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events came to an end with its third and final season. This year the series which starred Neil Patrick Harris as the conman 'Count Olaf' after the inheritance of the three child 'Baudelaire' heirs, saw them learn the truth behind the apparent death of their parents, plus the show earn three Emmy nominations, including for Outstanding Children's Program, Production Design and Fantasy/Sci-Fi Costumes.

These fantastical costumes worn by Lucy Punch as Count Olaf's ally, 'Esmé Squalor', were photographed on display at Downtown L.A.'s FIDM Museum & Galleries on August 20, 2019.

Materialistic and vain, Esmé is extremely obsessed with fashion and sees it as a way to demonstrate her wealth and status. These businesswoman and military chic, Hollywood glamour and outlandish costumes looks really do steal the show, especially that octopus outfit.

Cynthia Summers was Costume Designer on the third season, working with Assistant Costume Designers Phoebe Parson and Kelsey Chobotar and Costume Supervisors Lorelei Burk and Courtney McKenzie.

In this season Morena Baccarin plays the orphaned Baudelaire children's mother, 'Beatrice', and this is her show-stopping winged dragonfly opera dress.

Carnivorous Carnival costumes from A Series of Unfortunate Events season 2 on display...

In Netflix's adaptation of Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events, Neil Patrick Harris plays the devious and greedy 'Count Olaf', a master of disguise out to steal the inheritance of the three orphaned young 'Baudelaire' children, 'Violet', 'Klaus' and 'Sunny'. In the second season the characters venture to the Caligari Carnival, a creepy circus filled with freaks, fortune tellers and performers, from the ninth book in the series of thirteen, 'The Carnivorous Carnival'. The Count disguises himself as a ringmaster, whilst Violet (Malina Weismann) and Klaus (Louis Hynes) pretend to be the conjoined 'Beverly' and 'Elliot' to blend in.

Cynthia Summers was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Fantasy/Sci-Fi Costume Design for for her work on the second season of the show with the help of Assistant Costume Designers Phoebe Parsons and Kelsey Chobotar, plus Costume Supervisors Lorelei Burk and Courtney McKenzie.

These fantastical Carnivorous Carnival costumes were photographed on display at Downtown LA.'s FIDM Museum on August 21, 2018.

Ringleader costumes traditionally come in reds and golds, not primarily white which makes Count Olaf's fabulous outfit stand out even more, but for a more classic look be sure to check out Hugh Jackman's P. T. Barnum costume from The Greatest Showman as a comparison.

I really love these circus costumes and think they make for great Halloween inspiration if you were looking for something a bit creepy this year.
