Florence Pugh's May Queen movie costume from Midsommar on display...

In Writer/Director Ari Aster's 2019 folk horror, Midsommar, a young couple travel to Northern Europe to enjoy a friend's hometown's fabled Swedish mid-summer festival. What starts as an idyllic rural retreat quickly devolves into an increasingly bizarre and violent competition at the hands of a pagan cult. Florence Pugh plays 'Dani', an American student recently traumatized by the death of her family and already in a strained relationship with her distant, toxic boyfriend, 'Christian' (Jack Reynor). When Dani wins a maypole dancing contest she is crowned the 'May Queen', and when she sees her boyfriend participating in a sex ritual (after consuming hallucinogenic tea) she must choose to kill him or a commune member as part of the festival's final sacrifice.

This spectacular screen-used costume, which is more like a floral art installation, was photographed on display as part of The Horror Show exhibition at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures on October 4, 2026.

Andrea Flesch is Costume Designer on this folk horror movie and Dani's costumes in the film become more elaborate as the story progresses, culminating in this ritual piece adorned with 10,000 silk flowers.

You can see more of her work with these screen-worn Colette movie costumes.

Meanwhile fans of Florence Pugh can also check out her Yelena Belova movie costume from Thunderbolts, one of her Don't Worry Darling film costumes, her Outlaw King movie costume and her Amy March costume from Little Women on display.

Wesley Snipes Blade movie costume on display...

Wesley Snipes may have reprised his role as the antihero vampire hunter 'Blade' in the recent Deadpool & Wolverine movie, but he first brought the Marvel character to life on the big screen in 1998, well before the X-Men, Spider-Man, Hulk and Iron Man graced cinema screens. In Director Stephen Norrington's action horror film, Blade is a half-human, half-immortal vampire out to avenge his mother's death and protect humanity from evil vampires like Stephen Dorff's 'Deacon Frost'.

This screen-worn costume was photographed as part of The Horror Show exhibition at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures on October 4, 2026 (images are photographed with a compact camera and iPhone, hence the slight lighting variations).

Blade's modernized jian sword also on display was created by master blacksmith and sword maker Tony Swatton.

Sanja Milkovic Hays is Costume Designer on this comic book-inspired movie and responsible for the Daywalker's black leather trench coat, tactical gear and dark sunglasses look.

The Costume Designer is no stranger to Marvel comic book movies and her work can also be seen with these Thunderbolts movie costumes and these Captain Marvel movie costumes, plus she was also the designer on these Star Trek: Beyond movie costumes and these screen-worn costumes from The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.

It was great to see Wesley Snipes bring the fan favourite into the MCU fighting alongside Deadpool, Wolverine, Elektra and X23, and it's such a shame that Marvel Studios messed up with the previously planned reboot of Blade starring Oscar winner Mahershala Ali.

Gary Oldman's Vlad the Impaler armour from Bram Stoker's Dracula on display...

In Director Francis Ford Coppola's 1992 gothic horror movie, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Gary Oldman stars as the immortal vampire 'Count Dracula', who was formerly the Wallachian ruler 'Vlad the Impaler'. In the prologue of the film we see the prince return from victory in his campaign against the Ottoman Empire in 1462 to find this beloved wife 'Elisabeta' has committed suicide, thinking him dead from false enemy reports. Enraged he renounces God, desecrates a chapel and vows revenge, transformed into a vampire. Centuries later in the Victorian Era he sees the picture of his solicitor's fiancée, 'Mina Murray', and believes she is Elisabeta reincarnated and travels from Transylvania to England to be reunited with his love. The acclaimed film is based on the 1897 novel by Bram Stoker.

Gary Oldman wears this muscular-textured crimson armour in the flashback scenes at the beginning of the movie when he is still a human warlord.

The late Japanese art director and graphic designer Eiko Ishioka was Costume Designer on the movie, a field she had no prior experience in, who won an Academy Award for her designs.

The ribbed crimson armour has sinewy look, like the skin has been peeled off muscle, and is inspired by man and wolf. You can also the Japanese samurai influence in the armour's horned helmet.

This striking blood red screen-worn armour was photographed on display at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures as part of their temporary exhibition, The Horror Show, on October 4, 2026 (and for movie and costume lovers is worth seeing up close in person).

For another take on Vlad the Impaler's armour, be sure to check out Luke Evans movie costume from Dracula Untold on display.

Plus fans of the 1992 gothic horror movie can also take a look at Gary Oldman's Oscar-winning vampire make-up prosthetics and Transylvanian Castle model from Bram Stoker's Dracula on display.

Kathy Bates screen-worn Annie Wilkes movie costume from Misery on display...

If you think that fandom has become too toxic these days, then you need to meet 'Annie Wilkes', who really lives up to the idea of a "number one fan". In Director Rob Reiner's 1990 adaptation of Stephen King's 1987 bestselling novel, Misery, Kathy Bates plays the obsessed fan of James Caan's author 'Paul Sheldon' and his fictional character 'Misery Chastain'. In the psychological horror thriller after a snowy car crash the famous author is rescued by Annie who turns out to be a crazed fan. When she reads his latest Victorian romance manuscript and discovers he's killed off her favourite character, his care and recuperation turns into a nightmare of captivity and abuse until he delivers a satisfactory new novel.

Amy Madigan's Aunt Gladys movie costume from Weapons on display...

Director Zach Cregger's 2025 film, Weapons, introduced a new horror icon to cinema history with the introduction of Amy Madigan's 'Aunt Gladys'. The eccentric and terrifying role earned the actress a Best Supporting Actress Academy Award, amongst other accolades, and seeing her screen-worn costume on display at the Academy Museum's The Horror Show exhibition was a real highlight for me. In the supernatural horror all but one child from the same classroom mysteriously disappear into the night at exactly 2:17am, and a community of Maybrook, Pennsylvania is left questioning what happened. We soon discover that the boy named 'Alex Lilly' has an elderly Aunt Gladys who has bewitched his parents and moved into their home, pretending to care for them whilst stealing the other children away to drain their life energy and sustain her own ailing health. With the help of his elementary school teacher Alex eventually breaks free of his aunt's spell and the witch meets her own grisly fate at the hands of the stolen children.

Trish Summerville is the Costume Designer and Mike Schershel the Property Master on the film, whilst Leo Satkovich was Makeup Department Head and Melizah Wheat was Hair Department Head, all playing their part, along with Amy Madigan of course, of bringing Aunt Gladys to life on the big screen.
