This past holiday season saw Alvin and the Chipmunks return for a third installment of live-action and CGI animated high jinx in Chipwrecked.

To promote the family movie these giant chipmunk statues of the singing trio, Simon, Alvin and Theodore, were photographed on display in the foyer of the ArcLight Sherman Oaks cinema on December 27, 2011.

To help promote Steven Spielberg's big screen adaptation of The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn, they had these life-size replicas of Hergé's comic book characters in the foyer of the ArcLight Hollywood cinema on December 12, 2011.

It's not a bad way to get people excited about the animated movie when there are no original costumes or props to be exhibited.

Life-size Lightning McQueen and Mater from Cars 2 on display...

These fun Cars characters were photographed on display outside Disney's D23 Expo at the Anaheim Convention Center on August 19, 2011.

I believe these replicas of the animated characters were used to promote the 2011 movie sequel, as race car Lightning McQueen is sporting the World Grand Prix stickers that takes place in the second movie.

In addition to the amazing Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives exhibit, the latest installment in the Pirates of the Caribbean movie franchise also had this separate costume and prop showcase on the ground floor of Disney's D23 Expo on August 19, 2011.

Included in the collection of Penny Rose's costume designs from On Stranger Tides was Johnny Depp's latest 'Captain Jack Sparrow' eclectic ensemble.

Also featured was the costume Ian McShane wore in the movie to transform him into the notorious pirate captain, 'Blackbeard'.

The final costume on display on the Expo floor was that of Blackbeard's daughter, 'Angelica', played by Penelope Cruz in the film.

In addition to these fantastic looking outfits, there were also original props from the movie which helped bring the cut-throat world of the Pirates of the Caribbean to life.

Included in the collection of movie props were Blackbeard's ship's in bottles (which featured real miniaturized ships like the Black Pearl in the film by the wonder of CGI), crewman Scrum's mandolin, Angelica's weapons and even the Fountain of Youth chalices.

Also up for auction at the Expo was this fantastic 3D skull standee for the fourth movie, which looked pretty cool.

This full-size first-edition replica of the Alien creature that terrorised cinema goers and the crew of the Nostromo in Ridley Scott's 1979 Alien movie was photographed on display at the London Film Museum on January 25, 2011.

H.R. Giger designed the unique bio-mechanical look of the Alien, which helped make it such a distinctive and iconic sci-fi horror movie creature.

Apparently in the movie, Nigerian student Bolaji Badejo wore the special latex creature suit for most of the film's scenes, his 7 foot 2 inch tall and slender frame helping to create its unique appearance.

Sci-fi enthusiasts will love this first-edition replica of the Alien Queen from James Cameron's Aliens on display at the London Film Museum.

It really is amazing to see the iconic horror villain up close, and to scale, and admire all its alien detail.

Using H.R. Giger's amazing Alien creature design as a starting point, James Cameron was responsible for the initial Alien Queen design concept and collaborated with special effects artists Stan Winston to bring the finished Xenomorph Queen to the big screen in the 1986 sequel.

The Queen is significantly larger and stronger than the warrior and drone Aliens, around 4.5 meters (15 ft) tall, with two pairs of arms.

At the 1987 Annual Academy Awards, Aliens won the Oscar for Best Visual Effects.
