Not only did Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice give the Dark Knight a new grey and black costume, plus a mech exoskeleton armoured look, but it also offered a glimpse at an apocalyptic future 'Knightmare' Batsuit.

Michael Wilkinson was responsible for this dusty trench coat and googles costume design that was on display at Warner Bros. The movie also offered some motivation for Batman's grim and gritty personality and determined resolve to stop Superman, the apparent death of his sidekick 'Robin' at the hands of his arch-nemesis, 'The Joker'. This graffitied Robin costume, possibility belonging to 'Jason Todd' who was killed in the comics with a crowbar by Joker, was seen hanging in the Batcave in the movie,

The only problem with a clash of DC Comics titans like 'Batman' and 'Superman' is that one of them has superpowers like a god and the other is a human crime-fighter with some Bat-themed gadgets. Well aside from some handy Kryptonite, the Dark Knight also had a fierce armoured Mech Batsuit to help even the scales in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

This fantastic and powerful bulky Mech Batsuit worn by Ben Affleck in Zack Snyder's movie was designed by Costume Designer Michael Wilkinson and was photographed on display at Warner Bros. Studios Blacklot Museum on June 9, 2016.

This year's San Diego Comic-Con may have provided a glimpse of the future of the Justice League movie franchise, but Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was the film that laid the foundation for the birth of DC Comics premiere super-team on the big screen. Some would argue that this cinematic clash of superhero icons was a clunky and joyless affair, but surprisingly one thing I did enjoy about the movie was Ben Affleck's portrayal of 'Bruce Wayne' and his bat-themed Caped Crusader alter-ego.

I especially liked Michael Wilkinson's pared down grey and black Batsuit which evoked the classic tights version, although this reimagining had a bulky and gritty feel to it. You believed it could stop bullets and blades.

Also on display within the exhibit was the funeral outfit worn by Young Bruce Wayne, plus the crypt and vampire bat creature from grown up Batman's nightmare, along with an assortment of Bat tools like grenades, batarangs and grapple gun.
