In 2021 Scarlett Johansson finally received her own solo Black Widow movie, spinning a deadly origin tale of intrigue and espionage for the Avenger and introducing us to her former Russian sleeper agent "family". In order to wipe the red from her ledger as an operative of the Red Room and free other mind-controlled Widows, 'Natasha Romanoff' teams up with her younger "sister" 'Yelena Belova' (Florence Pugh), her "mother" 'Melina Vostokoff' (Rachel Weisz) and her "father" the Soviet super-soldier 'Red Guardian' (David Harbour). They take on Ray Winstone's 'General Dreykov', the leader of the Red Room and his mimic agent assassin (and daughter), 'Taskmaster', to free the Widows and unravel his deadly web of global spies.

The Marvel Comics character of Taskmaster is gender flipped and capeless in the movie and given a new identity, revealed to be 'Antonia Dreykov' (played by Olga Kurylenko), the daughter of the Red Room general. She was thought to have been killed by Natasha and 'Clint Barton" aka 'Hawkeye' when they bombed the older Dreykov's office in Budapest after defecting to S.H.I.E.L.D.
