Amy Madigan's Aunt Gladys movie costume from Weapons on display...

Director Zach Cregger's 2025 film, Weapons, introduced a new horror icon to cinema history with the introduction of Amy Madigan's 'Aunt Gladys'. The eccentric and terrifying role earned the actress a Best Supporting Actress Academy Award, amongst other accolades, and seeing her screen-worn costume on display at the Academy Museum's The Horror Show exhibition was a real highlight for me. In the supernatural horror all but one child from the same classroom mysteriously disappear into the night at exactly 2:17am, and a community of Maybrook, Pennsylvania is left questioning what happened. We soon discover that the boy named 'Alex Lilly' has an elderly Aunt Gladys who has bewitched his parents and moved into their home, pretending to care for them whilst stealing the other children away to drain their life energy and sustain her own ailing health. With the help of his elementary school teacher Alex eventually breaks free of his aunt's spell and the witch meets her own grisly fate at the hands of the stolen children.

This screen-worn school visit costume (missing her signature over-sized cartoonish glasses and slightly clown-like makeup) and carpet bag prop were photographed on display at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures on October 4, 2026 as part of the new temporary exhibition, The Horror Show, which runs through to July 25, 2027.

Trish Summerville is the Costume Designer and Mike Schershel the Property Master on the film, whilst Leo Satkovich was Makeup Department Head and Melizah Wheat was Hair Department Head, all playing their part, along with Amy Madigan of course, of bringing Aunt Gladys to life on the big screen.

For more of the Costume Designer's work be sure to also check out the movie costumes from The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes and these Emmy-nominated Westworld TV costumes.

Meanwhile we can add Aunt Gladys' iconic look to this coven of witch costumes from cinema and television screens.

Stay tuned for more spellbinding costumes that so suitable for this bewitching Halloween season.
