In the movie Colette, Keira Knightley plays the French novelist and author of such stories as Gigi and the Claudine books, Gabrielle Colette. Marrying Dominic West's Henry Gauthier-Villars, known by his pen name 'Willy', at the end of the 19th century, she's transplanted from rural France to the artistic splendor of Paris and ghost writes for her husband a semi-autobiographical tale out about a witty and brazen country girl named 'Claudine', sparking a bestseller and cultural sensation. Upon their success she fights to make her talents known and challenges societal gender norms, revolutionising literature, fashion and sexual expression.
