Based on Brian Selznick's 2011 novel, director Todd Haynes 2017 mystery drama Wonderstruck follows the stories of two children in two different time periods. In 1927 a young 12-year-old deaf 'Rose' (Millicent Simmonds) runs away from her father's New Jersey home to find her mother and idol, the actress 'Lillian Mayhew' (played by Julianne Moore), which is presented in black and white as a silent movie, whilst in 1977 a recently orphaned 12-year-old boy called 'Ben' (Oakes Fegly) runs aways from his Minnesota home in search of his father.

Lillian Mayhew costume worn by Julianne Moore
in Wonderstruck
I thought it was worth shining a spotlight on this 18th century stage costume worn by Julianne Moore as actress Lillian Mayhew. This faux period gown is covered in shiny metallic lamé decorations and bows on the dress, but shorter in style than traditional 18th century dresses to reflect the 1920s silver screen era.Fans of Julianne Moore can also check out her Poppy costume from Kingsman: The Golden Circle and her costume from The Kids Are All Right.
