Concept art and storyboards from 1982's The Thing on display...

Even though 2011 saw another remake of The Thing, John Carpenter's version is far superior (and itself a remake of 1951's The Thing From Another World). Universal Studios Hollywood had this fantastic collection of concept artwork, set blueprints and storyboards from the 1982 film on display on November 30, 2011.

I'm sure sci-fi and horror fans alike will get a kick out of this pre-production art of what the shape-shifting alien could have looked like.

The film exhibit also had these architectural blueprints of the scientific Antarctic base where the alien is discovered.

If you like these sketches and drawings, be sure to also check out the schematics and concept art for Jaws on display.

Plus if you're a fan, check out this alien creature prop head replica from The Thing on display at Universal Studios Orlando.
