Doctor Who Asylum of the Daleks costume, props and more on display...

In the first episode of the seventh series of the current Doctor Who revival, the alien time-traveler and his Companions, 'Amy' and 'Rory', find themselves captured by his ancient enemies, the Daleks, and trapped on a planet where insane Daleks are exiled.

This chained Dalek, red costume and backdrop doorway behind were featured in the episode featuring Matt Smith as the 'Eleventh Doctor' and photographed on display at the Doctor Who Experience in Cardiff Bay, Wales on May 20, 2013.

In this episode we surprisingly got our first glimpse of the Doctor's forthcoming Companion, 'Clara Oswald', or 'Oswin Oswald' as she is called in the Asylum of the Daleks. 'Oswin' had crash landed in the spacecraft 'Alaska' on the planet and had been converted into full Dalek form, although her mind had retreated into the fantasy that she was still human.

The episode featured many different Dalek designs, so if you're a fan of these iconic Doctor Who villains, be sure to also check out these different generations of the Daleks on display, including their creator 'Davros'.

Jenna Louise Coleman makes her first on-screen Doctor Who series appearance as the intelligent and flirty 'Oswin Oswald' and this is the outfit we see her in before we realise it's all in her imagination, and she is in fact a metal monstrosity.

If you're a fan of this Doctor Who Companion, here's another costume worn by the actress when she returns as 'Clara Oswald' (a mystery for the Doctor to solve, of why she keeps appearing and dying in different timelines) and the leaf bookmark and her '101 Places to See' book prop, given to her by her mother, that featured in 'The Rings of Akhaten' seventh season episode.

Doctor Who Companion costumes past and present...

As Doctor Who will be returning to our screens this coming Saturday it seems like the perfect time to share more photos from my most recent visit to the Doctor Who Experience costume exhibition in Cardiff Bay, Wales back on April 20, 2015. Here's a selection of outfits worn by the Doctor's plucky traveling Companions, new and old, across time and space.

First up is some of the wardrobe worn by Jenna Coleman as 'Clara Oswald', who has been Companion to both the 'Eleventh Doctor' (Matt Smith) and 'Twelfth Doctor' (Peter Capaldi).

If you';re a fan of the actress and the character she plays, you can also check out more Clara Oswald looks from flapper dresses, to Victorian-era and Medieval gowns here at Hollywood Movie Costumes and Props.

Next up is a dazzling array of Companion costumes worn by the likes of such favourites as 'Donna Noble', 'Rory Williams', 'Amy Pond', 'Martha Jones', 'Captain Jack Harkness' and 'Rose Tyler', who accompany the long-lived Time Lord on his adventures to different time periods, alien planets and on occasion, dimensions.

You can also see these Doctor Who Companion costumes in more detail from previous visits.

Over the course of its 50 year history, the British sci-fi show has featured a lot of Companions to help the Doctor, but it was Billie Piper who helped kick start a new era alongside Christopher Eccleston's ninth incarnation of the space-time traveler in March 2005.

On this visit to the exhibition they had this new 'Rose Tyler' outfit worn in the second season episode 'The Idiot's Lantern', where she and David Tennant's 'Tenth Doctor' faced off against 'The Wire', an alien criminal hiding in television transmissions during Queen Elizabeth II's coronation celebrations in 1953 Britain.

One of the most popular Companions from the original series was Lis Sladen's investigative journalist 'Sarah Jane Smith', who starred alongside the Third (Jon Pertwee) and Fourth (Tom Baker) regenerations of the Doctor.

The character returned in the revival's second season episode 'School reunion' and also received her own spin-off series, The Sarah Jane Adventures, which ran for five seasons until the actress sadly passed away from cancer.

I believe the pink outfit on display this time was from the 20th anniversary special, 'The Five Doctors', from 1983.

Next up from the BBC archives is an outfit worn by Sophie Aldred as 'Ace' in the penultimate serial, 'The Curse of Fenric', before the show went off the air for sixteen years.

Ace was the explosives-loving sidekick of Sylvester McCoy's 'Seventh Doctor' and this final season collection of episodes found the TARDIS materialising at a secret World War II naval base in Northumberland and facing vampiric human 'Haemovores'.

And finally, even though I've shared these some of these costumes on previous occasions, as 'River Song' (the Doctor's wife and daughter of Amy and Rory), is rumored to be returning in this year's Christmas special, enjoy these costumes worn by Alex Kingston in 'The Name of the Doctor', 'The Time of Angels' and 'The Pandorica Opens' episodes.

Personally I love Jenna Coleman's 'Clara', but I do think it would be great to see some alien Companions again sometime soon. Let's see what the new ninth season has in store for us.

Screen-used costumes and props from Doctor Who's Robot of Sherwood...

Over its fifty plus year history Doctor Who has explored time, space and also a great number of literary heroes, like in the eighth season episode inspired by the legend of Robin Hood, 'Robot of Sherwood'.

Here's a collection of cool costumes and props featured in the Medieval-themed episode photographed on display at the Doctor Who Experience in Cardiff Bay, Wales on April 20, 2015.

Traveling through Sherwood Forest in 1190 England, the 'Twelfth Doctor' (Peter Capaldi) and his Companion 'Clara Oswald' (Jenna Coleman) meet the infamous 'Robin Hood' (played by Tom Riley) and his Merry Men. This exhibit included Clara's Medieval red gown from the episode, plus this mannequin with Robin Hood's costume is also holding the golden arrow prize from the archery contest.

And you can't have a Robin Hood story without his arch-nemesis, the 'Sheriff of Nottingham' (played in this instance by Ben Miller). On this occasion the villain has found a crashed spacecraft and has taken control of the robotic men that piloted it, with a plan to conquer the world.

These Sheriff of Nottingham and Robot Knight costumes, by Series Costume Designer Howard Burden, are two of my favourites from this visit to the Doctor Who Experience exhibition.

In the episode the knight's Medieval helmet splits open to reveal the android's emotionless face within and its disintegration ray.

If you're a fan of the infamous Medieval archer and his Merry Men, be sure to also check out these original costumes and props from 2010's Robin Hood movie which starred Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett.

Plus for more Medieval costume inspiration, you should also take a look at Kristen Stewart's coronation gown from Snow White and the Huntsman, plus Maureen O'Hara's Lady Godiva of Coventry movie gown from 1955.

For more cool suits of armour, enjoy King Stefan's costume from Maleficent and Terry English's armours from 1981's Excalibur movie.
