Emma Watson and Dan Stevens film costumes from Disney's live-action Beauty and the Beast...

In a tale as old as time, in March 2017 Disney will lavishly retell the Beauty and the Beast fairytale in live-action with Emma Watson as 'Belle' and Dan Stevens as the 'Beast'. Bill Condon is responsible for reimagining Disney's 1991 animated classic for the big screen, as a young woman visits a prince for the first time since he has been enchanted in a beastly form and he can only be transformed back by true love.

These iconic looks for Belle and the Beast were photographed on display at ArcLight Sherman Oaks cinema on December 21, 2016, and were brought to life by Costume Designer Jacqueline Durran, and you can also see her Oscar-winning costumes from Anna Karenina here on my blog.

Emma Watson's timeless looking gown is made of yellow satin organza, with her bodice layers of net giving a feathered effect. Apparently for Emma Watson's active princess she didn't want a heavy corseted dress that would impede her in any way, and there is a cage under some parts to add volume, but it's mainly the organza layers that add the dress its lightness.

The gold accents of the dress are Madame De Garderobe's gift to Belle, and the gold flies down from the rococo ceiling to magically add a final layer to the dress, which in real life was printed with gold leaf and glitter to echo the ballroom floor.

Fans of the actress can also check out her Hermione Granger costumes and props from Harry Potter and her movie costume from The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

Downton Abbey's Dan Stevens plays the cursed prince in this movie adaptation of the fairytale classic and used stilts to achieve the height of the Beast on the practical sets acting opposite Emma Watson and wore a motion-capture suit for the creature's movement, plus also had his face scanned and mapped to help create the CGI version of the enchanted monster's face.

    1. It's hard to see all of the little details of this gorgeous gown from a pic that was taken with a piece of glass and bad lighting between it and the camera.

I am positive that on screen an in motion your opinion will change. It really is a work of art.

    2. This is my favorite movie of all time and this dress pains me so I totally agree the dress is so plain, it looks like a prom dress and the movie trailer doesnt do it any justice the bottom of the dress is pretty and Long and nice detail but the top ewwwww and I've seen way better dresses made by regular student designers so disappointed :(

    3. I agree that they dropped the ball on this gown. While I think it's still lovely in its own right, it's far, far too modern for Belle. I have also compared this gown to one for prom. They design is literally glitter and paint on silk organza sateen. Glitter. Paint. WTF.

  2. Maybe you'll like it more when you see it moving!

  3. Emma Watson may not have had a separate corset underneath that dress, but that bodice is fitted exactly like a corset!

    1. No, it's not. It lacks boning and isn't laced.

  4. Why does the bodice look like its made out of lasagna noodles? Please tell me im not the only one to see this

  5. It's your eyes and probably a small screen. What appears to be lasagna noodles is multiple linear if sewn in fabric detailing.

  6. Hi, Do you know where this display is now? Or how to find it. Belle is my 5 year old daughter's favorite princess, and we live in California we could make her great surprise.

    1. If it's not still at Arclight Sherman Oaks I'd imagine that the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood will have costumes when the movie opens in March
