Steven Spielberg's Bridge of Spies historical thriller is based on the 1960 U-2 Cold War incident, when an American spy plane was shot down over the Soviet Union and lawyer 'James B. Donovan' (Tom Hanks) was tasked with negotiating the release of the pilot in exchange for 'Rudolf Abel' (Mark Rylance), a KGB spy in U.S. captivity. The film's title refers to the Glienicke Bridge which connects Potsdam with Berlin in Germany, where the prisoner exchange took place.
