In Thor: Love and Thunder, Christian Bale joins the growing ranks of the MCU's supervillains playing the vengeful 'Gorr the God Butcher'. His character is part of an alien race, seemingly abandoned by their deity to die on a barren planet. Losing his daughter to the elements despite his prayers to their god 'Rapu', finally in his presence he takes up the god-killing Necrosword and strikes down the deity. Corrupted by the sword and able to manipulate shadows and create monsters, he takes his wrath across the universe and starts killing other gods, which ultimately leads him to confront 'Thor' and his friends.

Batman and Riddler costumes from Gotham season 5 on display...

DC's Batman television prequel, Gotham, ran for five seasons and explored the early career of police detective 'James Gordon' (played by Ben McKenzie) and 'Bruce Wayne' (David Mazouz) after the death of his parents. The series also shone a seedy spotlight on the origins of some of the Dark Knight's deadliest villains, like 'Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin' (Robin Lord Taylor) and 'Edward Nygma/The Riddler' (Cory Michael Smith). A grown up Bruce Wayne appeared in his Batsuit in Gotham's fifth season series finale.

These DC character costumes were photographed on display at Downtown L.A.'s FIDM Museum & Galleries as part of the 13th Art of Television Costume Design exhibition on August 20, 2019.

John Glaser and Joshua Quinn were Costume Designers on the show, with Assistant Costume Designers Rachael Andrews and Rebecca Lasky, plus Costume Supervisors Denise Andres and Laura McCarthy. I especially like the silver and metallic details of this Riddler look.

This year's San Diego Comic-Con may have provided a glimpse of the future of the Justice League movie franchise, but Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was the film that laid the foundation for the birth of DC Comics premiere super-team on the big screen. Some would argue that this cinematic clash of superhero icons was a clunky and joyless affair, but surprisingly one thing I did enjoy about the movie was Ben Affleck's portrayal of 'Bruce Wayne' and his bat-themed Caped Crusader alter-ego.

I especially liked Michael Wilkinson's pared down grey and black Batsuit which evoked the classic tights version, although this reimagining had a bulky and gritty feel to it. You believed it could stop bullets and blades.

Also on display within the exhibit was the funeral outfit worn by Young Bruce Wayne, plus the crypt and vampire bat creature from grown up Batman's nightmare, along with an assortment of Bat tools like grenades, batarangs and grapple gun.
