In the 2018 television adaptation of Vanity Fair, based on William Makepeace Thackeray's 1848 novel, Olivia Cooke plays 'Becky Sharp', a savvy and cynical social climber who uses her charms to fascinate and seduce the men of the upper class (such as Tom Bateman's 'Rawdon Crawley'), clawing her way out of poverty to the heights of English Society set against the backdrop of the Napoleonic Wars.
