In the film about mother-daughter relationships and paths not travelled, Michelle Yeoh plays 'Evelyn Quan Wang', an overwhelmed married middle-aged Chinese immigrant that runs a laundromat with her meek and goofy husband 'Waymond Wang' (Ke Huy Quan), who gets swept up in a universe-saving insane adventure in which she explores other universes, connecting with her alternate selves and their abilities to defeat the nihilistic 'Jobu Tupaki' (who just happens to be her daughter 'Joy', played by Stephanie Hsu).
