In the movie 'Gerda Wegener' (Alicia Vikander) paints her fellow artist and husband, 'Einar Wegener' (Eddie Redmayne), as a woman. As the painting gained popularity Einar started to embrace his female appearance and went by the name 'Lili Elbe', and with the support of his wife he attempted one of the first sex reassignment surgeries.
