Brie Larson's Captain Marvel movie costume on display...

Not only is Captain Marvel a certified global box office smash, but as a huge Marvel Comics fan I think it's also a great way to introduce this strong female superhero into the Marvel Cinematic Universe and remix her origin story to make it less convoluted and more accessible. Set in the 1990s Brie Larson plays 'Vers', a photon-blast wielding warrior serving with an elite alien military strike force. On a mission between the warring Skrull and Kree races she finds herself on Earth trying to piece together her memories of being a U.S. Air Force pilot called 'Carol Danvers' with the help of Samuel L. Jackson's younger S.H.I.E.L.D. agent 'Nick Fury' and her best friend and fellow pilot 'Maria Rambeau' (Lashana Lynch).

Formerly known as 'Ms. Marvel', 'Binary' and 'Warbird' throughout her long comic book history, this version of Captain Marvel (originally created by writer Roy Thomas and artist Gene Colan) is based largely on Kelly Sue DeConnick's take on the character from her 2012 series

The red, blue and yellow costume redesign by artist Jamie McKelvie which jettisoned her previous lightning bolt swimsuit and thigh boots look for a more military look which evokes the classic alien Kree military uniforms, complete with finned, or in this case, mohawk helmet and the male Captain Mar-Vell's iconic costume colours.

In the film Carol uses her Kree uniform's camouflage technology to change the colour of her suit, inspired by the clothes worn by 'Monica Rambeau' (Akira Akbar), her own U.S. Air Force t-shirt.

In 2019's Captain Marvel, Brie Larson took up the mantle of the cosmic warrior in her own solo origin movie set in the 1990s. Initially serving in the alien Kree's Starforce, 'Vers' soon learns that she is the human former U.S. Air Force pilot 'Carol Danvers' who was involved in the testing of a light-speed engine at the Project Pegasus base. When the experimental engine explodes she is granted superhuman powers that include energy-absorption, flight, durability and incredible strength.

In the Marvel Studios movie Jude Law plays her mentor and Starforce commander (and later her adversary), 'Yon-Rogg', and wears this Kree military uniform (which is a great homage to the original comic book source material).
