Period drama, musicals and fairytale costumes are all well and good, but what I really enjoy seeing up close are fantastic superhero costumes, especially as I'm a die-hard Marvel Comics fan. You can imagine my delight upon seeing these new 'Captain America' and 'Winter Solider' costumes from Captain America: Civil War on display at ArcLight Hollywood cinema today.
Following invasions of New York by alien hordes, the fall of S.H.I.E.L.D. in Washington D.C., Hulk's rampage in South Africa and Ultron's destruction of Sokovia, the government thinks its time to put the heroes and other vigilantes on a tighter leash. 'Iron Man' agrees, but Captain America has other ideas. Now it's time for their closest friends and allies to choose sides and fight in classic superhero style.

As always no apologies for the amount of images, as I know all you costumers and cosplayers appreciate the detail shots when you're trying to recreate your own looks.
This uniform is similar to previous iterations, but there are subtle difference like the absence of red and white bands on the sleeves as with the Captain America costume from Avengers: Age of Ultron, and black instead of brown boots.
It's not easy translating the stars and stripes flag to a costume, but I think Marvel Studios has done a great job over the course of several films with the star spangled hero, from his World War II uniform in The First Avenger to this latest modern update.

It's always hard photographing a mostly black costume, especially behind a reflective display case, but there's quite a bit of detail to Sebastian Stan's Winter Soldier military looking costume in this movie, lots of zips, seams and pockets. Plus how great is it to see his metallic arm on display too, I'm assuming in the films this is also achieved with CGI wizardry.
If you're a Marvel fan be sure to also check out these Avengers: Age of Ultron movie costumes, these Thor: The Dark World film costumes and these Iron Man suits on display.
Stay tuned for more original costumes from Captain America: Civil War to come, but in the meantime whose side will you be on this May?
