'The Snap' caused by the Mad Titan 'Thanos' assembling the six Infinity Stones to make the Infinity Gauntlet had some disastrous ramifications for the universe with half of all life instantly annihilated, but it also had some very personal repercussions for Jeremy Renner's 'Clint Barton' aka 'Hawkeye' who was at home under home arrest with his family at the time. The tragic loss of his wife and three kids led him down a dark path of rage and murderous revenge, and in Avengers: Endgame we discover he's taken on the deadlier 'Ronin' identity.

In the Marvel Comics, Hawkeye first assumes the ninja-style identity of Ronin after coming back from the dead, finding out there was another female Hawkeye (Kate Bishop) having taken his place in his absence and joining the New Avengers in the aftermath of Civil War (to help rescue the original Ronin, aka the deaf female superhero 'Echo').

This movie adaptation is a pretty faithful translation of the comic book costume and the hood, mask, wrist and shin guards are great touches, especially for rainy conditions.

You could say Avengers: Endgame was a tale of two captains, both with a military background, one a time-tossed super-solider from WWII, the other a cosmic warrior of the spaceways. Whereas 'Captain America's' heroic story came to an end in the movie, 'Captain Marvel' was positioned as the future of the Avengers, or at least front and centre as the powerful protector of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
