In
A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, a troubled and jaded journalist played by
Matthew Rhys is assigned the task of contributing to an article on iconic heroes for
Esquire magazine. He is assigned beloved children's TV show host,
Fred Rogers (Tom Hanks), host of
Mister Rogers' Neighborhood (which ran from 1968 to 2001), and wonders if the hand puppet-wielding
'saint' is for real, but begins to change his perspective on life after spending time with him. The film is based on
Tom Junod's "Can You Say... Hero?" article published in
Esquire in 1998.

Apparently
Costume Designer Arjun Bhasin sourced a knitter in
New York to replicate
Fred Rogers iconic cardigans, knowing that his mother often hand-knit his sweaters. This particular exhibit also features a tie loaned to the film by
Fred's wife,
Joanne Rogers.
