In
The Beguiled Sofia Coppola writes and directs the cinematic adaptation of
Thomas P. Cullinan's 1996 novel,
A Painted Devil.
Nicole Kidman plays
'Miss Martha Farnsworth' who runs a girls school in
Virginia with a handful of students, including
Elle Fanning's 'Alicia', and one remaining teacher (
Kirsten Dunst's 'Edwina Morrow') during the
U.S. Civil War, when an injured solider (played by
Colin Farrell) arrives filling the house with jealously and sexual tension.
