Detroit movie costumes on display...

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of Detroit, Michigan's 12th Street Riot in 1967, director Kathryn Bigelow and writer Mark Boal are re-teaming to tell the story of the Algiers Motel incident, where three black men were killed by white police officers and nine more people badly beaten, during the racially-motivated riots that lasted five days.

To publicise this period movie, which shines a light on another hidden piece of black history in America, these Detroit film costumes were photographed on display at ArcLight Hollywood cinema on July 22, 2017.

Franchie Jamison-Tanchuck was responsible for designing the late 1960s wardrobe in this movie based on real-life events.

In Detroit John Boyega plays a security guard who responds to shots fired at the motel and afterwards is under suspicion by the police of killing those involved because he was carrying a gun for his job.

Fantastical Fashions at Disney's D23 Expo 2017 - Part two...

As well as looking forward to future films, TV shows, toys, games and theme park attractions, Disney was also celebrating the past at this year's D23 Expo in Anaheim, California on July 14, 2017, with a fabulous collection of Fantastical Fashions from classic and recent live-action movies.

In addition to original Maleficent, Red Queen and Cruella de Vil costumes, the Disney Archives exhibit also had 'Belle's' yellow dress from 2017's Beauty and the Beast, 2015's 'Cinderella' ballgown and 'Giselle's' wedding dress from 2007's Enchanted.

2007's Enchanted lovingly spoofed Disney's fairytale princesses and saw Amy Adam's 'Giselle' magically transported form her animated world to real life New York City wearing this fabulously over-the-top fairytale wedding dress.

This year Emma Watson brought the book-loving 'Belle' to life in the Beauty and the Beast live-action spectacle in which she wore this ballgown to dance with Dan Stevens cursed French prince.

In 2015 Lily James brought the rags-to-riches 'Ella' to life in Kenneth Branagh's lavish live-action Disney adaptation and wore this glittering fairytale blue ballgown, adorned with butterflies, to dance with the Prince before the clock struck twelve.

Fantastical Fashions at Disney's D23 Expo 2017 - Part one...

This year at D23 Expo in Anaheim, California on July 14, 2017, the Walt Disney Archives exhibited a selection of six iconic gowns and costumes from Disney's live-action movies under the guise of Fantastical Fashions.

Here's a closer look at the spectacular costumes on display, some I've seen exhibited before but not out from under reflective cases, from 2014's Maleficent, 2010's Alice in Wonderland and 2000's 102 Dalmatians.

In the 2014 live-action version based on the Sleeping Beauty fairytale, 'Maleficent' is reimagined from the perspective of the Disney villain herself, and the vengeful fairy turns out to be not so villainous when you get to know her.

Anna B. Sheppard was the Oscar-nominated Costume Designer on the fantasy film directed by Robert Stromberg, and if you like this horned and fur-trimmed cloaked outfit (which I'd not seen in person before), be sure to check out more original Maleficent film costumes and props on display.

In Tim Burton's 2010 live-action incarnation of Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland, Helena Bonham Carter played the eccentric large-headed evil 'Red Queen'.

In the live-action sequel from 2000 directed by Kevin Lima, Glenn Close reprised her role as the sadistic, fur-loving Disney villain 'Cruella de Vil'.
