In Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings Awkwafina plays 'Katy Chen', the best friend of the film's titular superhero and finds herself transformed into an accomplished archer during their journey into the worlds of martial arts and mysticism. Born to Chinese immigrants, even though Katy has graduated from Berkeley University, she and her buddy 'Shaun/Shang-Chi' work valet parking at a hotel in San Francisco and love doing karaoke until the early hours together. She's quick-witted, loves driving fast cars and finds she has a talent for a bow and arrow.

Katy's red costume resembles the garments worn by the warriors of the mystical, other-dimensional village of Ta Lo and was photographed on display in the lobby of Hollywood's El Capitan Theatre on September 13, 2021.

Destin Daniel Cretton was the director of the movie and Kym Barrett was the film's Costume Designer.
