10 female Marvel Studios superhero movie costumes on display...

With the announcement that the solo Black Widow movie will now debut in cinemas and on Disney+ (for a premium rental fee) on July 9, 2021, I thought it would be cool to showcase some of the female Marvel Studios character costumes that I've come across on my travels to theatres, museums and conventions in recent years.
Black Widow costume worn by Scarlett Johansson
in Avengers: Endgame

First up is Scarlett Johansson's 'Black Widow' costume from 2019's Avengers: Endgame when she journeys to the planet Vormir where she makes the ultimate sacrifice to retrieve the elusive Soul Infinity Stone.

Judianna Makovsky was Costume Designer on the Avengers epic and this costume was photographed on display at Hollywood's El Capitan Theatre in May 2019.

Fans of the MCU super spy can also take a look at her other screen-worn Black Widow costumes from the Avengers movies.

Wanda Maximoff costume worn by Elizabeth Olsen
in Avengers: Infinity War
Elizabeth Olsen Avengers Wanda Maximoff costume
Fans of the recent WandaVision will know that 'Wanda Maximoff' officially adopted the 'Scarlet Witch' name and created a new costume with a tiara to herald her mastery of Chaos Magic.

Here's her former look introduced in 2016's Captain America: Civil War and worn through Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, designed by Alexandra Byrne and photographed on display at Disney's D23 Expo in Anaheim, California in August 2019.

Fans of Elizabeth Olsen's Marvel Comics character can also check out these other Scarlet Witch costumes since her costumed debut in 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Valkyrie costume worn by Tessa Thompson
in Thor: Ragnarok
Tessa Thompson Thor Ragnarok Valkyrie costume
In 2017's Thor: Ragnarok, the God of Thunder found himself on a cosmic adventure where he met a fellow Asgardian, in the form of Tessa Thompson's hard-drinking, battle-weary 'Valkyrie'.

This Asgardian-armoured outfit was worn when she rode with her fellow Valkyries and was designed by Mayes C. Rubeo and photographed don display at Downtown L.A.'s FIDM Museum & Galleries in February 2018.

Make sure you also check out her other Valkyrie costume worn on the planet Sakaar in Thor: Ragnarok.

Lady Sif costume worn by Jaimie Alexander
in Thor: The Dark World
Jaimie Alexander Thor Dark World Sif costume
In 2013's Thor: The Dark World, Jaimie Alexander reprised her role as the Asgardian warrior 'Lady Sif'.

Wendy Partridge was Costume Designer on the Thor movie sequel and her screen-worn costume was photographed alongside Zachary Levi's 'Fandral' outfit at ArcLight Sherman Oaks cinema in November 2013.

I can't wait to see Lady Sif back in action with her sword and shield in the forthcoming Thor: Love and Thunder film, and hope she gets a proper storyline.

Shuri costume worn by Letitia Wright
in Black Panther
Letitia Wright Black Panther Shuri costume
In 2018's solo Black Panther movie we got to explore the highly advanced African nation of Wakanda and its citizens, including another member of the royal family, 'T'Challa's' genius younger sister, 'Shuri', played by Letitia Wright.

Ruth E. Carter won an Oscar for her costume designs on the film and this look, complete with her panther-like Vibranium gauntlets, was photographed on display at Disney's D23 Fan Expo in Anaheim in July 2017.

If you like this look, make sure you also check out Shuri's ceremonial costume from Black Panther on display.

Okoye costume worn by Danai Gurira

In the Marvel Studios movie we also met other strong black female characters including Danai Gurira's 'General Okoye', leader of Wakanda's all-female Dora Milaje, the secret service warriors who protect the royal family.

Gamora costume worn by Zoe Saldana
in Avengers: Infinity War

In 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy we were introduced to Zoe Saldana's green-skinned daughter of 'Thanos', the deadly 'Gamora'.

In Avengers: Infinity War we learn more about her history with the mad Titan and she sports this costume designed by Judianna Makovsky, which was photographed on display at Hollywood's El Capitan Theatre in May 2018.

Fans of the galaxy's deadliest woman can also check out these other Gamora costumes from the Guardians of the Galaxy movies.

Ancient One costume worn by Tilda Swinton
in Doctor Strange
Tilda Swinton Doctor Strange Ancient One costume
2016's Doctor Strange origin movie introduced us the mystical side of the MCU and we met the 'Ancient One', the mentor of 'Stephen Strange' after his surgeon's hands were injured in a devastating car crash.

In casting Tilda Swinton as Doctor Strange's long-lived magical tutor of Celtic descent, Marvel was criticised for whitewashing an Asian character, even though they also gender switched the role for more female representation.

Alexandra Byrne was Costume Designer on the magical movie and this garment was photographed on display at L.A.'s FIDM Museum in February 2017.

Wasp costume worn by Avengeline Lilly
in Ant-Man and the Wasp
Avengeline Lilly Wasp movie costume
Evangeline Lilly's 'Hope van Dyne' finally got her wings in 2018's Ant-Man and the Wasp. She also wore this super-suit as the high-flying, size-changing heroine in Avengers: Endgame.

Louise Frogley was Costume Designer on the Ant-Man sequel and the Wasp's costume was photographed at ArcLight Hollywood cinema in June 2018.

Captain Marvel costume worn by Brie Larson
Brie Larson Captain Marvel movie costume
And finally for this collection of MCU costumes, here's Brie Larson's blue, red and gold 'Captain Marvel' uniform from her 2019 solo movie.

Sanja Milkovic Hays was responsible for translating 'Carol Danvers' comic book redesign by Jamie McKelvie for the big screen.

This costume was photographed alongside her Kree Starforce green, silver and grey Vers costume at the El Capitan Theatre along Hollywood Boulevard in March 2019.

10 male Marvel Studios superhero movie costumes on display...

With Marvel Studios The Falcon and the Winter Soldier making its debut on Disney+ tomorrow, it seems like the perfect time to share these movie costumes from the Marvel Cinematic Universe on display at cinemas, museums, theme parks and expos across the years.
Falcon costume worn by Anthony Mackie
in Avengers: Infinity War

This may not be Anthony Mackie's 'Falcon' costume from the new series, but he did wear it in Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame.

I believe this look first made its debut in Captain America: Civil War with Concept Art by Josh Nizzi and Costume Design by Judianna Makovsky.

This Falcon costume was photographed on display at Hollywood's El Capitan Theatre in May 2018.

Winter Soldier costume worn by Sebastian Stan
in Avengers: Infinity War

Again this is not Bucky's costume from the new TV series, but instead the outfit Sebastian Stan sported in Avengers: Infinity War after rehabilitating in Wakanda.

This costume was photographed alongside Falcon's at the El Capitan Theatre, but be sure to also check out his other Winter Soldier costume from 2016's Captain America: Civil War, also designed by Judianna Makovsky.

Another timely costume is this red, green and gold look worn by Paul Bettany as the synthezoid 'Vision' in Avengers: Age of Ultron through to the recent hit WandaVision television series.

Alexandra Byrne was Costume Designer on the 2015 film and this costume was photographed on display at Disney's D23 Expo at the Anaheim Convention Center in August 2019, alongside Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch costume.

In 2018 Chadwick Boseman's 'Black Panther' leapt into solo action and sported this new Vibranium-laced suit to defend his high-tech African nation of Wakanda, which was designed by Oscar-winner Ruth Carter.

He wore it again in Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame and this panther suit was photographed at L.A.'s FIDM Museum in February 2019.

Make sure you also check out his bulkier Black Panther suit from Captain America: Civi War designed by Judianna Makovsky.

10 cool screen-used props from the movies on display...

In recent months I've collected together costumes, cars and motorcycles that I've come across on my travels, but I've also seen some amazing screen-used props from the movies on display. So, here's ten cool movie props to enjoy that really stood out when I started looking through my archives.
Noisy Boy robot from Real Steel
Noisy Boy robot Real Steel
First up is this 'Noisy Boy' robot from 2011's sci-fi movie, Real Steel, where robot boxing is the biggest sport of the future.

This purple and yellow, kanji-adorned robot was photographed on display in the foyer of Hollywood's El Capitan Theatre in October 2011.

Victor Martinez was lead concept artist and robot designer on the movie and the live-action robots in the film were created by Animatronic Supervisor, John Rosengrant, and the team at Legacy Effects.

And if you like this life-size prop, make sure you take a closer look at the animatronic robot Atom from Real Steel too.

PASIV dream machine from Inception
Inception PASIV dream machine prop
Next up is the high-tech equipment used in 2010's sci-fi thriller Inception to help Leonardo DiCaprio and his team to enter other people's dreams to steal secrets and extract information.

This futuristic-looking PASIV (Portable Automated Somnacin IntraVenous) prop was photographed on display at ArcLight Sherman Oaks cinema in July 2010.

Fans of the Christopher Nolan movie can also enjoy more screen-used costumes and props from Inception.

Communicator from E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial
ET the ExtraTerrestrial communicator prop
One prop I remember fondly from my childhood was the communicator assembled by 'E.T.' in Steven Spielberg's beloved 1982 science fiction film about a stranded alien who befriends a boy named 'Elliott'.

This makeshift device comprised of an umbrella with tin foil, a coffee tin, record player, a Speak & Spell and other wires and electronics was used by the Extra-Terrestrial to "Phone home" in the movie.

This classic movie prop was photographed on display at Universal Studios Hollywood in April 2009.

Giant egg from Hellboy II: The Golden Army
Hellboy II Golden Army egg prop
Another prop which made me go "Wow" when it was on display at the Universal Studios Hollywood theme park was this giant clock steampunk-inspired egg from the 2008 Hellboy sequel.

Fans of Guillermo del Toro's comic book adaptation can also enjoy these other costumes and props from Hellboy II: The Golden Army.

Phasers from Star Trek
Star Trek phaser movie props
I've always been a fan of Star Trek, so I enjoyed seeing these updated Phasers from J. J. Abrams 2009 rebooted Star Trek film franchise, referred to as existing in the 'Kelvin Timeline'.

These screen-used props used by the crew members of the USS Enterprise were photographed at ArcLight Hollywood cinema in May 2009 alongside other original costumes and props from Star Trek.

Chilled monkey brains from
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
Indiana Jones and Temple of Doom chilled monkey brains prop
One prop which made me laugh and shudder a little (I'm not a fan of snakes) was this chilled monkey brains prop from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.

This ghoulish prop from the 1984 sequel when 'Indiana Jones' and his friends were served a stoamch-churning feast of bugs, eyeball soup and more at the Pankot Palace, was photographed on display at the Planet Hollywood Cafe in Las Vegas in April 2011.

Giant CIA badge from Muppets Most Wanted
Muppets Most Wanted Giant CIA Badge prop
One of the things I liked about 2014's Muppets Most Wanted was the simple, funny visual gag where 'Sam the Eagle's' CIA agent tries to outdo Ty Burrell's French Interpol inspector with the size of his badge, getting more and more over-sized until this giant monstrosity arrives.

This fun screen-used prop was photographed on display at Hollywood's El Capitan Theatre in March 2014, exhibited alongside other costumes and props from Muppets Most Wanted.

Automaton prop from Hugo
Hugo Automaton prop
In Martin Scorsese's 2011's fantasy-adventure, Hugo, an orphaned boy who lives in a 1930s Paris train station tries to solve the mystery of his late father and a mechanical automaton.

This mechanical man prop was captured on display at ArcLight Hollywood in November 2011 alongside other movie costumes and props from Hugo.

Bug extractor prop from The Matrix
Matrix bug extractor prop
1999's genre-defining sci-fi movie, The Matrix, not only brought the action and "bullet time", but also some funky futuristic contraptions like this bug extractor prop which Carrie-Anne Moss's 'Trinity' uses to remove the robotic bug from the belly of Keanu Reeves 'Neo'.

If you like this prop photographed on display at Warner Bros. Studios Backlot Tour in June 2016, be sure to check out these other models and props from The Matrix movies.

Black Pearl miniature pirate ship
from Pirates of the Caribbean
Pirates of the Caribbean Black Pearl miniature pirate ship
And finally for this eclectic selection of film props, here's a miniature 'Black Pearl' pirate ship used in the Pirates of the Caribbean movie sequels.

This spectacular scaled-down pirate ship was photographed on display at Disney's D23 Expo at the Anaheim Convention Center in August 2011.

Plus be sure to also check out the HMS Endeavour filming model from Pirates of the Caribbean on display at The Reagan Library in July 2012.

You can see from this small selection why I love getting a glimpse at all the magic that goes on behind-the-scenes in Hollywood.

That's why I love showcasing all the makers, propmasters, set designers and production teams who turn fantastical ideas into reality for the big and small screen (who don't usually get credited as part of these exhibits in the same way that Costume Designers do).
