Now that the spoiler embargo has been lifted on
Avengers: Endgame it's safe to discuss the heroic fate of
Scarlett Johansson's 'Black Widow' in the 22nd entry in the
Marvel Cinematic Universe. On a time-hopping mission to recover the
Soul Infinity Stone from the past on the planet
Vormir, she sacrifices herself to restore the inhabitants of the universe that died in
'The Snap', atone for all the red in her ledger as a spy and reunite her friend
'Hawkeye/Ronin' with his family.

Some may say her death is controversial, especially given that another heroine,
'Gamora', was killed by
'Thanos' in a similar way in
Infinity War, but it was
'Natasha Romanoff's' choice to sacrifice herself and she was cunning and skilled enough to stop
'Clint Barton/Hawkeye' from making the same emotional and heroic sacrifice, so I think it's true to her character and a worthy legacy.
