As it's
Black History Month I thought it was timely to share these costumes from the
History TV remake of
Roots, and whilst others may not want to acknowledge things like the
Holocaust and slavery ever happened, I think it's important to acknowledge this dark, ugly chapter in
American history. This 2016 mini-series adaptation of
Alex Haley's Roots: The Saga of an American Family stars
Malachi Kirby as
'Kunte Kinte', an
African man kidnapped and sold into slavery, chronicling his life and those of his descendants in the
United States.
Original costumes from 2016's Roots TV remake
Ruth Carter and Diana Gilliers were
Costume Designers on this historical drama which also starred
Forest Whitaker, Anika Noni Rose, Anna Paquin and
Denise Milfort.
These costumes from the TV series were photographed on display at the
FIDM Museum in
Downtown L.A. on August 9, 2016.
