Fantastic costumes from Disney's Alice in Wonderland movie...

It's always a thrill to see actual costumes on display from a movie you've seen at the cinema, especially when they are such a spectacle as these colourful and extremely detailed creations from Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland.

In addition to a fantastic array of original props from the movie and The Mad Hatter's costume worn by Johnny Depp, the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood also had this wonderful collection of exclusive outfits from the Disney film.

Freddy Krueger costume and props from A Nightmare on Elm Street remake...

In 1984 Wes Craven introduced the world to a new horror character in the form of the scarred, claw gloved, striped sweater and Fedora wearing villain, 'Freddy Krueger', who haunted teenagers dreams and killed them whilst they slept.

Here's also a short video of the display and then some more close-up shots of Freddy's claw-gloved hands (in case you wanted the detail to create your own Halloween costume design). Apologies for the quality of some of the images as the sunlight streaming in behind the display made it hard for my camera to focus properly.

The El Capitan exhibit was enlightening because not only did it show you props and costumes featured in the film, but also gave a few insights into how the various creatures and special computer generated effects were created in the movie.
There was a miniature stand-in doll for filming Mia Wasikoska's 'Alice' when she shrank down in size (pictured beside The White Queen's ornate telescope) and also green screen props like swords and the frog footman used for positional guides.

Chroma Keying or 'green screen' is a technique for mixing two images or frames together in which a colour (green) from one image is removed, revealing another image behind it. The colour green is used as it is considered least like human skin tone.

Johnny Depp's Mad Hatter costume from Alice in Wonderland...

Johnny Depp certainly likes to play an eclectic range of characters in the movies he stars in and that's no less true for his role in his latest Disney blockbuster, Alice in Wonderland, where he once again teams up with frequent collaborator and director, Tim Burton, as 'The Mad Hatter'.

Another repeat collaborator with Tim Burton is the costume designer responsible for this fabulous outfit, Colleen Atwood, who also worked with both men on Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street and Sleepy Hollow.

I make no apologies for the amount of photos of this costume as I know that a lot of amateur costume designers and Disney enthusiasts will want to see every detail, and I wouldn't be surprised if there are lots of Mad Hatter's running about this Halloween.
