Guillermo del Toro's gothic horror romance film,
Crimson Peak, may not have set the box office alight, but the film's fashion certainly turns heads and this exquisite collection of costumes was definitely one of the highlights of
L.A.'s FIDM Museum's 24th Art of Motion Picture Costume Design Exhibition on February 12, 2016.

Kate Hawley was responsible for these spectacular costumes designs with their overblown sleeves, bold colours and dramatic trains in this Victorian-era gothic romance ghost story.

In the film,
Mia Wasikowska's 'Edith Cushing' is enticed to live in a haunted mansion in the remote
English countryside by the mysterious and seductive
'Thomas Sharpe' (Tom Hiddleston). Marrying him, she moves into the house along with his equally enigmatic sister,
'Lucille' (Jessica Chastain), and discovers that the manse and its occupants hold more than a few spooky secrets.

The actress wears these two costumes in the movie, and as these outfits were on display out of display cases it was amazing to see the embroidery on the sleeves and creepy details like the clasping hands waist belt up close.
Mia Wasikowska is no stranger to wearing elaborate costumes, like these
Alice in Wonderland movie costumes and
Jane Eyre period drama costumes.

Rather interestingly the exhibit also had a pair of the button-up boots worn by the actress as
Edith on display, and next to them the original 1870s pair (on the left) that were matched detail-for-detail to recreate historically accurate fashion for the period film.

Jessica Chastain's 'Lucille' certainly likes dramatic looks with these dark, rich colours and lengthy dress trains.
If you're a fan of the beautiful actress, you can also see her
1960s costume from The Help and her
1950s costume in The Tree of Life on display.

Meanwhile if you're a fan of the charming
Tom Hiddleston, be sure to also check out his
Loki costume from Thor: The Dark World and these
War Horse movie costumes on display.
Stay tuned for more fantastic costumes up close and currently on display and open to the public for free at the
Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising Museum until April 30, 2016.
UPDATED: On a subsequent visit to the exhibit a hat was added to the
Edith Cushing costume on the far left to complete the outfit.
