Costumes, props and motorcycles from Captain America and The Avengers...

Hands up who was surprised with how good 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger was. Being a Marvel Comics (and Chris Evans) fan I was worried that the star-spangled Avenger wouldn't live up to the expectations of his big screen Marvel predecessors like Iron Man and Thor, or that his onscreen debut may be a corny, patriotic mess. Fortunately my fears were proven wrong and I loved every minute of Cap's World War II origin and action romp.

The Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives exhibition at The Reagan Library had these original motorcycles used in the movie on July 17, 2012, plus Captain America's shield and modern day uniform from The Avengers on display.

I don't believe this updated costume designed by Alexandra Byrne was actually worn by Chris Evans in 2012's The Avengers, but the whole thing is instead a prop from Cap's ready room locker set from the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier.

It's still pretty cool though and provides great detail of the patriotic uniform, especially if you plan to make it yourself for Halloween or Cosplay purposes. Obviously it goes without saying, where Captain America entertained, The Avengers simply blew me away and totally exceeded all my expectations.

Tony Stark's F1 race car from Iron Man 2 on display...

Being a life-long Marvel Comics fan, one of the best thing about Disney buying Marvel a few years ago was that I now get to enjoy a taste of comic book goodness whenever I attend exhibitions like the Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives at The Reagan Library.

Photographed on display with a life-size Iron Man 2 statuette on July 17, 2012, this F1 race car is driven by Robert Downey Jr. in the movie as the playboy billionaire inventor 'Tony Stark'. The Formula One racing action takes place at the Circuit de Monaco in France, where he's attacked by an energy-whip wielding 'Ivan Vanko' (Mickey Rourke).

I have to say, my fanboy heart skipped a beat when I saw this Stark race car on display.

If you're a fan, be sure to also check out the Iron Man 2 suit statuette in more detail and stay tuned for more Marvel movie goodies in the days to come.

Nautilus filming model from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea...

Amongst all the Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives at The Reagan Library on July 17, 2012 was this wonderful filming model of 'Captain Nemo's' infamous 'Nautilus' submarine from Disney's 1954 movie adaptation of Jules Verne's literary classic 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

Being a self-professed sci-fi geek I was immediately drawn to this cool looking vessel. The detail on the model was pretty amazing and shows you the artistry that went in to special effects back in the day before today's over reliance on computer-generated imagery.
